Five Easy & Practical Tips for Seasonal Wardrobe Swaps

Organization0 comments

The seasonal wardrobe struggle is real!  Every time the weather changes (or in Texas, every few days), we find ourselves digging through our closets trying to figure out what to wear.  Swapping out seasonal clothes can feel like a chore, but with the right approach, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.  I’m here to share some easy, practical tips to help you edit, organize and simplify your wardrobe so getting dressed is a breeze—no matter what the forecast says.

Step #1: Store Last Season’s Clothing the Right Way

Before packing away clothes from last season, take a few minutes to wash or dry-clean everything so it’s fresh when you need it again.  Fold soft items like sweaters neatly and store them in breathable bins, while structured pieces, like coats or blazer, should be hung in garment bags.  Keep storage containers in a cool, dry space like under the bed, in a closet or on a high shelf to prevent dust and damage.

Step #2: Bring Out the New Season’s Clothes

As you unpack your clothes for the new season, do a quick check.  Does it still fit? Is it in good condition?  If something feels outdated or you haven’t worn it in a while, donate or sell it.  Give everything a refresh—toss it in the wash, steam out wrinkles or do a little repair work if needed—so you’re ready to go.

Step #3: Organize Your Closet Before Filling It Back Up

Before adding clothes back in, take a few minutes to set up your closet in a way that makes sense for you.  Some people prefer organizing by category (work, casual, dressy), while others go by color or even temperature.  Use sturdy hangers for heavier items and slim velvet hangers for delicate pieces.  The key is to make everything easy to see and grab so you’re not rifling through a mess every morning.

Step #4: Organize Your Dresser, Too

Not everything needs to be hung!  (Unless you’re like me and prefer not to have a dresser in your bedroom).  Fold items like t-shirts, jeans and workout clothes and use drawer dividers to keep things from turning into a pile.  Try the file-folding method so you can see everything at a glance instead of digging through a stack.  Pro tip: Keep a small donation bin nearby for anything you realize you’re no longer loving—decluttering is an ongoing process!

Step #5: Don’t Forget Shoes & Accessories

Your seasonal switch isn’t complete without swapping out shoes and accessories.  Store off-season shoes in labeled bins or clear containers so you can find them easily when needed.  For boots, use pool noodles or boot shapers to keep them standing tall.  Hang scarves on a rack or hooks and keep everyday jewelry organized so it’s easy to grab and go.

Switching out your wardrobe doesn’t have to be a dreaded task—think of it as hitting the reset button on your style!  A little time spent organizing now means less frustration later.  If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I’d love to help you create a closet system that works for your life (and Texas weather!).  Let’s make organizing simple, stylish and stress-free.
